THE BAN ON SNOOP DOGG IN AUSTRALIA HAS ENDED! (24thAug/08)

The ban prohibiting Snoop Dogg from entering Australia has been lifted and the rapper is expected to tour the country November 2008! As previously reported by RnBandHIPHOPworld.com last year, Snoop was banned from entering Australia by the country's former immigration minister Kevin Andrews. Andrews claimed he banned Snoop from entering the country because of his prior criminal convictions. Snoop appealed the ban and he was granted a visa to perform in Australia this week. He will be joined by Ice Cube when he tours the country in November. However, it is not all good news for Snoop. The Victims Of Crime Assistance League (VOCAL) plans to file a formal complaint with immigration officials about the decision. “What's wrong with these social engineers to let such a disgraceful person into the country?” said VOCAL member Noel McNamara. “There is enough violence in the community without importing violent rappers from America. This visa should be cancelled. Snoop should stay home.” “Snoop trades in toxic messages of menace, violence, misogyny and lawlessness,” said Angela Conway of the Australian Family Association. “We need to keep him out of Australia. These menacing, blood-soaked misogynist raps have a corrosive impact.” This marks the second ban against Snoop Dogg by a country that has been lifted. As previously reported by RnBandHIPHOPworld.com, the star was also banned from the UK in 2006 because of his criminal record and a widely reported altercation between his entourage and British authorities at London's Heathrow Airport. Snoop appealed the ban and a judge lifted it earlier this year. However, the judge's decision was challenged by the UK Border Agency and is still pending.

THE WACKNESS HITS THE BIG SCREEN! (18thAug/08)

Err, no, we not talking about a rubbish movie here, "The Wackness" is actually the title of the flick! This new movie is set in New York City, 1994 and has a soundtrack that that will impress true hip-hop heads! But wait! Just incase you thought this was just another hip-hop flick with the usual hip-hop actors doing their thang, well nope! Read on... Synopsis: New York, a city pulsing with hip hop, a city whose new mayor, Rudy Giuliani, is using controversial methods to address homelessness and crime. Much like the city, Luke played by Josh Peck (see headline photo) and Dr. Squires (Sir Ben Kingsley) are at a crossroads. Luke considers himself semi-suicidal, unhappy about his high school social status and the fact that his family is on the verge of eviction. Dr. Squires and his rehab-addicted wife (Famke Janssen) can barely tolerate each other. Together, Luke and Squires agree to help each other find happiness. When Luke identifies medication as his salvation, Dr. Squires chides him, "Don't go for the quick fix. This whole city wants a quick fix." Eventually, however, the two bond over a common goal, getting laid. This quest takes them from borough to borough, and leads to encounters with several of Luke's 'business associates, among them, a dreadlocked pixie (Mary-Kate Olsen). Eventually, Luke's attention turns to Dr. Squires' stepdaughter, Stephanie (Olivia Thirlby), which in turn, causes the already fragile Doctor to lose it completely. Set against the backdrop of the greatest year in hip hop history, "The Wackness" takes place in a very different time, a time of pagers, not cell phones, and a time in which Tupac and Biggie were alive. The film uses this world as a backdrop for a very different story, one with humor (humour), pathos, sex, drugs, and of course.. Hip-hop beats! The movie opens in the UK August 29 and is in select cinemas across the USA now! Oh and did I mention that Method Man is in this movie! You can peep the trailer over on our "THE MOVIES" page by clicking the photo of Josh Peck or by using our menu system.

MASTER P DITCHES HIS HIP-HOP NAME AND REVERTS BACK TO P. MILLER! (15thAug/08)

Master P released a statement this week saying he will no longer answer to the rap moniker "Master P." The hip-hop legend has officially changed his name to P. Miller in an effort to break from his past. "I'm changing my name because Master P is who I used to be," Miller said. "I call it my childhood and P. Miller marks my manhood. I wouldn't change my past because it's groomed me to be the man I am today. People grow mentally and spiritually through life experiences, but when you come from hip-hop it's almost impossible to move past the stereotypes associated with it. I've branched out into so many different arenas that range from being the first African-American to have a clothing line at Wal-Mart, to writing books, and speaking on Capitol Hill, but all that gets overshadowed because I come from the hip-hop industry. There're a lot of people out there, who are afraid to grow up and change, but I'm not and P. Miller is the evolution of me, Percy Miller the entrepreneur, the business man."

COMEDY LEGEND BERNIE MAC DIES AT AGE 50 - RIP. (9thAug/08)

Bernie Mac, the actor and comedian who is more recently known for his sitcom "The Bernie Mac Show," died early this morning (Saturday) at age 50. The star was hospitalized in his hometown, Chicago, with pneumonia. "Actor/comedian Bernie Mac passed away this morning from complications due to pneumonia in a Chicago area hospital," his publicist, Danica Smith, said in a statement from Los Angeles. The comedian suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease that produces tiny lumps of cells in the body's organs, but had said the condition went into remission in 2005. He was recently hospitalized and treated for pneumonia, which his publicist said was not related to the disease. Recently, Mac's brand of comedy caught him flack when he was heckled during a surprise appearance at a July fundraiser for Democratic presidential candidate and fellow Chicagoan Barack Obama. "Wherever I am, I have to play," he said in 2002. "I have to put on a good show." Mac worked his way to Hollywood success from an impoverished upbringing on Chicago's South Side. He began doing standup as a child, and his film career started with a small role as a club doorman in the Damon Wayans comedy "Mo' Money" in 1992. In 1996, he appeared in the Spike Lee drama "Get on the Bus." He was one of "The Original Kings of Comedy" in the 2000 documentary of that title that brought a new generation of black standup comedy stars to a wider audience. Mac went on to star in the hugely popular "Ocean's Eleven" franchise with Brad Pitt and George Clooney. Comedian Carl Reiner, who also appeared in "Ocean's Eleven" and its two sequels, said Saturday he was "in utter shock" because he thought Mac was improving. "He was just so alive. I can't believe he's gone," he said. Reiner told KNX-AM in Los Angeles that other comics had talked to the audience as Mac did on "The Bernie Mac Show," but "he took it to a new level. It was such a popular show because of his bigger-than-life persona," Reiner said. Mac's starring role with Ashton Kutcher in 2005's "Guess Who" topped the box office. It was a comedy remake of the classic Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn drama "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?" with Mac as the black dad who's shocked that his daughter is marrying a white man. Mac also had starring roles in "Bad Santa," "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" and "Transformers." The comedian drew critical and popular acclaim with his Fox television series "The Bernie Mac Show," which aired more than 100 episodes from 2001 to 2006 in countries all over the world. In real life, he was very much like his character on that series, his daughter, Je'niece Childress, told The Associated Press on Saturday. "He was the king of his household," Childress said in Chicago, describing Mac as "a loving grandfather" to her daughter, his only grandchild. "The Bernie Mac Show" garnered Golden Globe and Emmy nominations for Mac. Mac was nominated for a Grammy award for best comedy album in 2001 along with his "The Original Kings of Comedy" co-stars, Harvey, D.L. Hughley and Cedric The Entertainer. Chicago music producer Carolyn Albritton said she was Bernie Mac's first manager, having met him in 1991 at Chicago's Cotton Club where she hosted an open-mike night. "From very early on I thought he was destined for success," Albritton said Saturday. "He never lost track of where he came from, and he'd often use real life experiences, his family, his friends, in his routine. After he made it, he stayed a very humble man. His family was the most important thing in the world to him." In 2007, Mac told David Letterman on CBS' "Late Show" that he planned to retire soon. "I'm going to still do my producing, my films, but I want to enjoy my life a little bit," Mac told Letterman. "I missed a lot of things, you know. I was a street performer for two years. I went into clubs in 1977." Mac was born Bernard Jeffrey McCullough on October 5, 1957, in Chicago. He grew up on the city's South Side, living with his mother and grandparents. R.I.P. Bernie Mac 1957 to 2008.

JOE CLAIMS R.KELLY TRIED TO WRECK HIS CAREER! (8thAug/08)

R'n'B singer Joe has accused R. Kelly of pressuring radio DJs not to play his records in a bid to wreck his growing stardom. Joe released six albums with Jive Records over an 11 year period, but left the label earlier this year after the company pushed back the release of his 2007 LP "Ain't Nothin Like Me" several times. Joe believes his rival labelmate Kelly was to blame, insisting he would call Jive bosses and radio stations and urge them not to promote the singer too strongly. Joe says, "R. Kelly was very instrumental in making a lot of decisions when it came to my records being played on the radio. "He would make a call to the radio station or to the label and say, 'Hey, this Joe record is too hot right now. Y'all need to pull that back.' And they would oblige. It's incredible that now I get the opportunity to, I don't know, maybe pay R.Kelly back in some sort of side bar kind of thing." And Joe, who left Jive to release his forthcoming LP New Man through Kedar Entertainment Group, insists he is still a prevalent musician despite R. Kelly's alleged intervention. He says, "I'm still very relevant in the game. But yeah, he did try to make some decisions when it came down to my records being on fire, and climbing up the charts and on the radio stations. He felt like they should pull back because he felt he was more important. And with their loyalty to him, they obliged." OBAMA IS NOT HAPPY WITH NEW LUDACRIS SONG! (31st/July/08)

Presidential nominee Barack Obama has condemned an endorsement song from Ludacris, in which the Luda criticizes rivals Hillary Clinton and John McCain. The song "Politics: Obama Is Here" praises Obama’s success but turns venomous when Obama’s rivals are addressed. Ludacris mentions the bitter Democratic primary battle by stating "Hillary hated on you/So that b**ch is irrelevant." Regarding Republican nominee John McCain, Luda rhymes: "McCain don’t belong in ANY chair unless he’s paralyzed/ Yeah I said it cause Bush is mentally handicapped/ Ball up all of his speeches and I throw ‘em like candy wrap." Through his campaign team, Senator Obama released a statement condemning the song as offensive and typical of much of Hip-Hop’s current lyrical content. "As Barack Obama has said many, many times in the past, rap lyrics today too often perpetuate misogyny, materialism, and degrading images that he doesn’t want his daughters or any children exposed to," explained spokesman Bill Burton. "This song is not only outrageously offensive to Senator Clinton, Reverend Jackson, Senator McCain, and President Bush, it is offensive to all of us who are trying to raise our children with values we hold dear. While Ludacris is a talented individual he should be ashamed of these lyrics." Previously Obama has said that Ludacris’ music receives heavy rotation in his iPod! A point also acknowledged in the song when the rapper says: "With a slot in the president’s iPod Obama shattered ‘em/ Said I handled his biz and I’m one of his favorite rappers."

BILL O'REILLY DISSES NAS! (29th/July/08)

Controversial Fox News anchorman Bill O'Reilly has taken aim at Nas over the rapper's protest outside the TV network's headquarters in New York last week. Nas joined human rights activists to deliver a 600,000-name petition calling for network executives to end their "pattern of racist attacks against Black Americans." But O'Reilly insists the protest was nothing more than a publicity stunt to boost sales of the rap star's number one album, "Untitled." Calling Nas a "vile rapper", the conservative host claims Nas' new album is "a bomb, a disaster, a catastrophe," and the "I Can" hitmaker needed to do something to bring attention to his release.

FOXY BROWN'S LAWYER SPEAKS OUT AGAINST BOOK LAWSUIT! (29th/July/08)

The suit, which was filed Thursday (July 24) in New York State Supreme Court, stems from a book deal made with Brown to write her autobiography. Foxy received a $75,000 advance from Simon and Schuster in 2005 to pen the book titled Broken Silence. Despite claims by the publisher that Brown reneged on the deal, the rapper’s attorney, Laura Dilimetin, says Simon and Schuster allowed her client to put the project on hold after Brown’s "health became a priority" when she was diagnosed with sudden severe hearing loss that same year. The hearing loss wasn’t the only thing preventing Brown from promoting her autobiography. The star was sentenced in 2007 for various violations of her probation. "I find it suspect that after all of these years of silence, Simon and Shuster pick now to bring this merit-less action when they were the ones to halt the project," Dilimetin said in a statement recently. Despite this, Dilimetin revealed that the rapper would "love to continue with Simon and Schuster and welcomes talks to continue to solidify a deal." Lil Kim is also in the firing line as she also failed to complete a novel for Simon and Shuster after receiving a $40,000 advance in 2003.
